چکیده

Quantum fields are known to violate all the pointwise energy conditions of classical general relativity. We review the subject of quantum energy inequalities: lower bounds satisfied by weighted averages of the stress-energy tensor, which may be regarded as the vestiges of the classical energy conditions after quantisation. Contact is also made with thermodynamics and related issues in quantum mechanics, where such inequalities find analogues in sharp G̊arding inequalities.

We consider a 2 + 1-dimensional SU(N) lattice gauge theory in an axial gauge with the link field U 1 set equal to one. The term in the Hamiltonian containing the square of the electric field in 1-direction is non-local. Despite this non-locality, we show that weak-coupling perturbation theory in this term gives a finite vacuum-energy density to second order, and suggest that this property holds...

We study the sign problem in lattice field theory with a θ term. We apply the maximum entropy method (MEM) to flattening phenomenon of the free energy density f(θ), which originates from the sign problem. In our previous paper, we applied the MEM by employing the Gaussian topological charge distribution P (Q) as mock data. In the present paper, we consider models in which ‘true’ flattening of f...

We discuss recent progress in various problems related to bound-state quantum electrodynamics: the bound-electron g factor, two-loop self-energy corrections and the laser-dressed Lamb shift. The progress relies on various advances in the bound-state formalism, including ideas inspired by effective field theories such as Nonrelativistic Quantum Electrodynamics. Radiative corrections in dynamical...
